Biography

London-born pianist Alexander Soares is increasingly in demand as a soloist. He has performed across the United Kingdom in such venues as the Purcell Room, Southbank Centre, the Barbican Centre, LSO St. Luke’s, St. James’ Piccadilly, and West Road, Cambridge. He has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3 in a live U.K. première, and has given a solo recital in the LSO Discovery Series. He also featured in a live broadcast from London to Times Square, New York, publicised on German TV and radio. Alexander made his concerto debut at the age of 17, with the Barber Concerto, and since then has regularly appeared as a concerto soloist with orchestras in London and Cambridge, most recently in a critically acclaimed performance of Rachmaninoff’s Third Piano Concerto with the Ealing Symphony Orchestra. He has toured across France performing Stravinsky’s Les Noces. Most recently, Alexander made his London debut recital in the Purcell Room, in the Park Lane Group New Year Series.

Alexander began his piano studies at the Royal College of Music, Junior Department, under Emily Jeffrey. At the RCM he was winner of all of the top competitions, and upon leaving was awarded the Esther Coleman prize for outstanding contribution. He graduated with a first class degree from Clare College, Cambridge, where he led an active concert life as a soloist and chamber musician. Alexander is currently studying with Ronan O’Hora as a Fellow at Guildhall School of Music.

In 2010, Alexander became a Recommended Artist in Making Music’s Philip and Dorothy Green Award. He has won numerous awards including Guildhall’s Beethoven Prize, 2nd prize in the Brant International Piano Competition, 2nd Prize by the Beethoven Piano Society of Europe, the Countess of Munster award, and a Musicians Benevolent Fund Postgraduate Performance Award. He has won scholarships to Dartington to study piano with Stephen Kovacevich and Joanna MacGregor and has also taken part in masterclasses with Stephen Hough, Richard Goode, Dominique Merlet, Steven Osborne and Yonty Solomon.
